In my opinion social media is one of the biggest shifts since the industrial revolution and much more than a fad. Social media has changed the way our world works, how we now communicate with each other. It has allowed us to completely change the way we are able to share ourselves and our thoughts with the world, and tons of people are taking advantage of the opportunity. For example just yesterday I read that Facebook now has over 750 million active users and that people spend over 700 billion minutes per month on the website, and that's only one of the hundreds of social media sites out there on the web.
Social media is at work in many ways. It is a way to advertise your business, share that special talent no one ever knew you had, show your breathtaking photos and keep people informed on your day to day life. For me, social media is a way to talk to my love ones at home face to face, a place to find an amazing photographer for my brothers wedding and a way for my mother to keep checking up on me ;)
For businesses social media allows for peer reviews, which many business owners have said are more valuable and bring more business then weeks of advertising, not to mention the fact that it's free.
For young artists social media allows them to be heard by thousands of people around the globe and allows them to be recognized for good and sometimes not so good talent. ITS FRIDAY, FRIDAY, GOTTA GET DOWN ON FRIDAY :)

The point is that social media is a part of life, one way or another, for most of us today. Just look at the statistics above ! Social media will only continue to grow, for example look at Google with their new site Google+. Companies are invested in social media because it is the present and most defiantly the future too.

I totally agree with what you've said and you hit some super key points, but do you think that social media is a step backwards for society? Alot of societies social etiquettes have been lost due to social media. We've forgotten how to interact with eachother. As much as it is a great tool for keeping in touch with people you don't see very often, what about the people you do see everyday? I've watched people facebook eachother when they're sitting right next to eachother (and not because it's a private conversation they don't want others to hear). I've also seen people "be in a relationship" with someone they've never met before and probably never will. I also think there's too much information accesible to anyone. Alot of people do not block their profiles or post their personal contact information for anyone to see. Know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great job on your article, it was very fun to read! :)
From your blog posting I understand that the small business get more benefit from social media. Face book is the most popular advertizing and establishing tool to establishing the business. You gave great information, I like that
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with how social media had a great impact on us since the industrial revolution and will continue. I have seen many of friends that talk to each other through social media such as facebook and twitter than they talk to each other in real life at school. I wonder why and how is it possible that they are so much into social media than in real life. Getting back to my point of friends talking more through social media than real life, this proves the point that they are very much intrested into talking through facebook and twitter than in real life where you can talk better with each other.
ReplyDeletei agree with your thought.Social media is at work in many ways. It is a way to advertise your business and attach with people in world.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading some of the other comments, and a TV commercial popped into my mind,I think it was a car company doesn't really matter. The point of the commercial was that her daughter was sitting there alone on her laptop talking about having 600 or 700 friends and how that's living and how her out of touch parents only have about 15 friends and how they are not living. But the commercial keeps breaking back and forth between the daughter sitting alone on hr laptop and her parents are out enjoying life with their new vehicle meeting friends going bike riding with friends basically living life with other people not on the Internet. Kind of makes you wonder just what are we giving up.
